Updated Real Estate in Beekman New York
The beautiful family-friendly town of Beekman is located about 70 miles north of New York City. It sits along Fishkill Creek, a tributary of the Hudson River and is known for its local farms, fishing and fabulous fall foliage. Included below are homes for sale and real estate in Beekman, NY.
The name Beekman came from Henry Beekman, a 17th century landowner in Dutchess County. The town was once occupied by the Wappinger Indians, until 1710 when the first European settlers arrived.
Beekman began to rapidly grow as a mining town in the mid to late 19th century, but mining turned downward by the start of the 20th century. During this time housing development increased and a gas station and a supermarket were added, making it a growing suburbia.
Today, visitors can tour historic landmarks such as America's oldest continuously operated inn, Beekman Arms Delamarter Inn, built in 1766, the 1754 homesite of Colonel James Vanderburgh, and the 1794 burial marker of Colonel Vander.
Beekman has a population of 14,443 and covers a total of 30 square miles. It features a wide array of modern condominiums, single-story and raised ranch splits, estate homes, and beautiful contemporary Colonials, many with acreage.
